2022 Chronicle Wines Viognier
Densely fruity and botanical, this Viognier is subtler than some of its West Coast counterparts, owing to the North Fork’s cooler climate. The dry and warm 2022 vintage was the perfect length to produce a Viognier balanced between acidity, flavor, and mouthfeel. Aromas of starfruit, melons, plantain, and beeswax lead to flavors of bergamot, key lime, peach, and chamomile. The mouthfeel is medium to full-bodied and balanced well against an acidity that is surprisingly fresh but not sharp. Drink this Viognier as an aperitif, or enjoy it with white fish, chicken salad, grain-based salads, or firm cheeses.
This lot of Viognier grapes was a happy surprise appearance at the winery this harvest. Cool fermentation in stainless steel, and lees stirring once a week for six weeks post-ferment. The wine was racked off of its lees to another stainless steel vessel and placed outdoors in the winter air to naturally cold stabilize. It was then hand-bottled in 22 cases.
