2018 BOE Pinot Gris

Tasting Notes

This Pinot Gris leans into the Alsatian style, as suggested by the name of ‘Gris' rather than 'Grigio'. Full-bodied and driven by stone fruits, melon, blossom, and baking spices, our Pinot Gris is golden in color and rich on the palate. It is not at all the citrus-flavor water that is normally exported to the U.S. This is Pinot Gris the way it was meant to be! Food-friendly acidity, with notes of Bosc pear, key lime, plantain, cantaloupe, almonds, and cinnamon. It finishes with honeysuckle and lingering zest.

Process

The grapes were destemmed, crushed, and soaked on the skins for six hours before pressing to extract a deeper flavor from the skins. The juice was then separated into two lots; about two-thirds were fermented in older oak barrels to develop depth and mouthfeel. The Barrel-fermented wine was stirred on its leet and the stainless steel wine rested on its lees for three months after fermentation. Once each lot was racked, the wine was blended and rested in the tank until bottling.
