2022 As If "Change" skin-ferment white
Tasting Notes
"Change" has expressive botanical notes, and is silky on the tongue, giving it a round mouthfeel, but is animated with dark citrus and moody spices. At first whiff, amaro-like orange bitters, pink rose, and peach skin. Notes of blood orange marmalade and ginger burst on the tongue, along will mellow almond and elderflower.
Process
"Change" is the new home and label for the long-time fan-favorite—Brooklyn Oenology "Broken Land" orange wine. Just as in previous iterations of Alie's skin-ferments, the cuvée features her favorite skin-ferment varietals. In this year's release, the Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris were blended as crushed grapes at the winery for a co-ferment. Skin contact lasted through ferment, until 8 days after ferment was completed. After pressing off skins, a third of the volume went to age in second-year barrels, and the remainder rested in the tank prior to final blending. The resulting color and wine are like a sunset in the bottle, and sunrise in the glass.
