2012 BOE Gewurtztraminer

This orange Gewurztraminer is a distinctive wine made in a classic Italian/Slovenian style. Through on-skin maceration, the wine is imbued with a deep golden color and complex flavors. This dry, aromatic wine offers a rich experience, with a heady palate of orange zest, ginger root, lychee, apricot pit, rose, and jasmine tea, all changing in the glass as you drink. Its complex structure benefits from decanting and a temperature slightly warmer than normal for a standard white. Pair with pork or robust fish dishes, medium-bodied cheeses, and cream-based pasta sauces.

Process
This is a small-batch production. Grapes were de-stemmed and crushed, then fermented in bins with skins and seeds. After fermentation, the wine macerated on the skins for another three weeks before pressing. The wine was then transferred to neutral oak barrels and a stainless steel barrel for maturation. The Gewurztraminer was racked and returned to the barrel twice to promote an even aging profile throughout the lot. Bottling occurred after 9 months in barrel.
